Welcoming Garden

In July 2020 Neighbour Woods North, along with help from the community, took a patch of desolate grass in the traffic island in front of the hospital and turned it into a lush, healthy garden of perennial flowering plants, shrubs and trees.

Now the thousands of people who enter the hospital each year are met by a garden that may distract them briefly from their worries and bring a smile to their faces.

Gardens such as these have been shown in studies to improve the experience of people coming to a hospital.

NWN continues to maintain the garden, with a weekly work party that weeds, trims, plants new plants and keeps the garden looking healthy and vibrant.  We are always looking for volunteers to assist – whether that is for one week – or the whole season – consider joining in to help tend this warm welcome to hospital patients, visitors and staff.
